Kristen Wheatley and Amie Delp won their respective races and Carroll County finished with six medalists Saturday at the Randy Smith Classic at Sugar Hollow Park in Bristol, Va.
Wheatley, a CCHS junior, had another big day as she turned in a 3.1-mile time of 19:32 to top a field of 65 runners in the varsity race. The runner-up, Jessey Ball of Lebanon, finished 45 seconds behind Delp with a time of 20:17.
Kendra Durnil and Cathryn Lineberry also finished in the top 10, giving the Cavaliers three medalists in the varsity girls’ race. The top 15 varsity runners and top 10 middle school participants earned medalist honors. Durnil finished seventh with a time of 21:47 and Lineberry placed 10th, completing the course in 22:16. Carroll did not have enough runners to field a team, but still managed three in the top 10.
Amie Delp continued her torrid running pace for Carroll County, winning the middle school girls’ race with a time of 12:03. Delp’s run was tops among the field of 68 runners.
Brandon Weyant and Davis Reitzel also earned medals for the Cavaliers in the middle school boys’ event. Weyant placed sixth out of 98 runners with a time of 11:56. Reitzel placed 10th with a run of 12:05. Luke Watson finished 19th overall for Carroll with a time of 12:54. Shawn Weyant’s time of 13:22 was good enough for 29th. Carroll’s Charlie Banks turned in a run of 14:08 to place 38th and Avery Weyant finished in 52nd with a time of 14:51. Carroll placed third out of nine teams in the middle school boys’ race with 90 points. Radford won the event with a score of 40 and Holston Valley Middle School was second with 54.
Isaac Burcham and Thomas Montgomery finished the varsity boys’ race with times of 21:02 and 22:58, respectively.
