The postseason honors continue to roll in for Carroll County’s Laken Crockett, who has been selected first-team all-state.

Crockett, who has already been named Region 4D Softball Player of the Year, has now been selected to the 2018 VHSL Class 4 All-State First Team. One of Carroll County’s top hitters, Crockett also played nearly perfect defense at the hot corners this season as she split time at first base and third base – earning her a spot on the all-state team as a utility player. Playing first base when Emily Cook pitched and third base when Katie McKenzie was on the mound for the Cavaliers, Crockett made just one error in 168 chances for an.994 fielding percentage.

“With her on both of the hot corners and with multiple opportunities to make plays and only have one error, I think that speaks highly about her,” Carroll County head coach Rick Nester said.

Crockett was a first-team selection to the All-Three Rivers District squad as a third baseman. In region voting, she was selected second-team as a third baseman, but first-team as a utility player since she switched positions based on who was pitching for the Cavaliers. She also was first-team all-state as a utility player due to her versatility.

At the plate, Crockett was one of the top hitters in Region 4. She led Carroll County (16-5) in runs scored (26) and tied for the team lead in doubles (10). Her .579 batting average with runners in scoring position was well ahead of any other Lady Cavalier – helping lead the team to a third straight trip to the regional semifinals.

Crockett also finished second on the team with 33 hits, 18 RBIs, a .493 batting average, a .630 on-base percentage and a .687 slugging percentage. Crockett also homered once and drew 13 walks while only striking out three times.

State Champion Woodgrove swept the all-state awards with senior Camryn Dolby being voted as Class 4 Player of the Year and coach Joseph Spicer named Class 4 Coach of the Year.
