Hayden Farmer and Blake Stanley both ripped two-run home runs May 8 as Carroll County defeated Giles 10-1 in a Three Rivers District baseball game at Bill Worrell Field in Hillsville.
Farmer’s two-run dinger to left field came in the first inning to get the Cavaliers going, while Stanley’s homer to left came in the sixth inning. With plenty of offense behind him, Kyle Robinson allowed just five hits and one run in six innings of work to get the win. He also struck out seven and walked just one. Chad Crotts pitched a perfect inning of relief in the seventh to close out the victory for Carroll County (9-7, 6-3 Three Rivers District).
After Farmer’s two-run homer in the first inning, Brant Davidson walked with the bases loaded to up the Cavaliers’ lead to 3-0. Giles got a run back in the top of the second, but Carroll responded as Jackson Hull walked and scored in the bottom half of the inning.
The lead stayed 4-1 until the bottom of the fifth inning. After Lance Rotenizer walked and Stanley singled, Dylan Rodrigue’s RBI single drove in Rotenizer. Stanley later scored on an error and Davidson also reached on an error that allowed Rodrigue to score for a 7-1 Carroll cushion.
The Cavs plated three more in the sixth. Farmer singled and took second on an error, then courtesy runner Hunter Nester scored on Rotenizer’s RBI single to left field. Rotenizer then crossed home plate on Stanley’s two-run homer.
Stanley went 2-for-4 with two runs and 2 RBI to lead Carroll at the plate. Rodrigue added two hits, a run and an RBI and Farmer scored once and drove in two. Nine different Cavaliers had hits in the win and eight different players scored runs.
