A Mount Airy, N.C. woman has been charged with multiple drugs and weapons violations after a traffic check in Carroll County.

According to Carroll County Sheriff J. B. Gardner, Sheriff’s deputies were conducting a traffic check Oct. 9 on Fancy Gap Highway at the intersection of Chances Creek Road, when they observed a vehicle approach the check, stop in the road and then pull off to the side of the road. The car sat there for approximately a minute and deputies went to the car to check the driver, Gardner said.

“The driver gave deputies a fake name and date of birth and claimed that she had a driver’s license, just no license with her,” Gardner said. “Deputies Joe Utt and Jake Worrell searched the car and the area around the car and discovered a pink purse. A search of the purse revealed a .380 pistol and .22 pistol. A black bag inside the purse contained methamphetamines, marijuana, two pipes, and a concealing device that looked like a lighter, which contained blue pills.”

Gardner said the driver was determined to be Crystal Moreen Pettry, 35, of Linville Road in Mt. Airy, N.C. He said Pettry was charged with possession of marijuana, giving false information to a police officer, possession of a Schedule IV drug, possession of a Schedule II drug, possession of a Schedule II drug while possessing a weapon, and two counts of carrying a concealed weapon.

Pettry was transported to the magistrate and later transported to the New River Valley Regional Jail, where she is being held under no bond.
