One fatality has occurred in connection with a two-vehicle accident which occurred near the U.S. Route 52 Bypass bridge in Hillsville on September 24 at 4:30 p.m. Officials confirmed Monday morning a motorcyclist involved in the incident has died.

According to information filed by Hillsville Police Department Officer Sargeant Josh Edwards, the incident involved a 1999 Ford F150 pickup truck driven by Vee Swann, age 68, of Southport, North Carolina, and a 2007 Model 1100 Series Yamaha motorcycle driven by Stephen Lisy, 70, of Chardon, Ohio.

The report indicates the motorcycle was traveling south near the Route 52 Bypass on the bridge when the pickup traveling north made a left turn in front of it. The vehicles did not collide but Lisy “laid down” the cycle, sustaining what appeared to be a serious injury to his left leg. Lisy was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, North Carolina for treatment.

The speed limit posted in the area is 45 miles per hour and speed was not a factor in the incident. Weather was also not a factor in the accident with the road surface being in good condition. The Hillsvill Police Department said charges are pending in relation to the incident.
