A U-turn turned out badly for a North Carolina man Thursday as his tractor-trailer became snagged on power lines in Hillsville.
According to a police report by Hillsville Police Department Sgt. Billy Anauo, the department received a dispatch on Thursday at approximately 4 p.m. in reference to a tractor-trailer that had struck the power lines overhead at 1550 North Main Street in the parking lot of the Hillsville Church of God. On arrival, Sgt. Anauo spoke with Guy Christopher Brown, 35, of Greensboro, N.C., the driver of the 2015 Freightliner that was tangled in the lower lines of the electrical pole. According to police reports, Brown was attempting to deliver a load to Family Dollar in Hillsville when he missed his turn and went the wrong way on U.S. 52.
“Mr. Brown stated he was attempting to turn his vehicle around in the parking lot at the church when his trailer snagged the lower line and those lines hit the front of the trailer,” Anauo wrote in the police report.
AEP workers responded to the scene and there was no damage to the powerlines. However, there was damage to Comcast and CenturyLink lines, Anauo said. No charges were filed in the accident. The Hillsville Police Department, Hillsville Fire Department and Carroll County EMS all responded to the scene. No injuries were reported.
