Carroll man killed in crash on Parkway


State Police investigating Saturday accident

The Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a Carroll County man Saturday afternoon on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Nelson County.

According to Virginia State Police reports, Trooper T.M. Skehan is investigating the fatal crash that occurred in Nelson County on the Blue Ridge Parkway approximately 5.4 miles south of Route 814. The crash occurred Saturday, June 30 at 4 p.m.

“A 2005 Toyota 4Runner was traveling along the Blue Ridge Parkway when it first ran off the right side of the highway. The vehicle swerved back to the left, crossed over the highway, ran off the left side of the road and struck several trees,” according to the state police report. “The driver, Reid D. Ostrander, 65, of Fancy Gap, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.”

No further information on the crash was available at press time.
