Derek Michael Barnett -

The 6-year-old boy Carroll County authorities had been searching for since June 8 has been located and two arrests have been in connection with the case.

Carroll County Sheriff J. B. Gardner confirmed that Derek Michael Barnett, age six, was located in Richmond, Indiana and is safe. Rebecca Barnett and her father, Christopher Barnett, have both been arrested, Gardner said Friday, adding that no further information is available at this time.

According to Gardner, on Friday, June 8, Carroll County Department of Social Services contacted the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office about a missing juvenile.

“During a court hearing in Carroll County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on Thursday, June 7, Rebecca Barnett was ordered to surrender 6-year-old Derek Michael Barnett to Carroll County Social Services by Friday afternoon,” Gardner said in a previous press release. “Rebecca Barnett failed to comply with the court order and warrants were obtained charging Rebecca Barnett and her father, Christopher Barnett, with a custody/visitation violation outside of Virginia. Rebecca Barnett and Christopher Barnett are entered into NCIC and are suspected of fleeing with the child to Indiana.”
