A small child was injured in connection with a pedestrian accident Saturday on Glendale Road in Carroll County. According to information from the Virginia State Police, the incident happened on Route 887, one-tenth of a mile west of Route 635 around noon.
According to the information supplied on the accident report form, the pedestrian, a ten-year old female, ran across the roadway in the path of a vehicle and was struck, landing in a ditch. According to the report, the vehicle came to a stop in the roadway.
The vehicle involved was a 2016 Ford Taurus driven by Rush Allen, age 91, of Galax. Damages to the vehicle were estimated at $600. No traffic summons were issued in connection with the incident because it was determined the driver was unable to avoid making contact with the minor.
Initial reports indicate the child was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. for treatment and is expected to recover.
