Carroll County Public Schools announced Dr. Beverly Adams-Parker as Assistant Superintendent following a special meeting held on May 24.
According to information supplied by the Division, Adams-Parker’s new role (From Director of Instruction, PK-12) was viewed as “an excellent transition considering her wide array of experiences in public education and her passionate leadership in the development, resources, and support of Curriculum and Instruction in Carroll County.“
Adams-Parker has served Carroll County Public Schools since July 1997 in various roles, including her current role as Director of Curriculum and Instruction PK-12 and Division Director of Testing. Prior to her current position, she served as Director of Middle/High School, Director of School Improvement and Accountability, Coordinator of Professional Development/Data Analyst, and as Elementary Principal.
She began her career as a professional educator in North Carolina. In North Carolina, she served as a High School English/Spanish Teacher, ESL Teacher K-12, ESL/Bilingual Program Coordinator, and Middle School Instructional Generalist/Supervisor prior to moving to Virginia with her 7-year old son, John Lancaster, who graduated from Carroll County High School.
The statement from the School Board read, “Dr. Adams-Parker is committed to striving for continuous improvement and excellence in education, as reflected in her passion to encourage and support: quality effective instruction; a comprehensive program of offerings that incorporates a variety of student interests, skills, and talents; freedom to re-design curriculum to meet the diverse needs of students rather than a focus on separate content areas; student voice in learning; professionalism; a culture of continuous improvement, community awareness, and involvement; and effective leadership that inspires others.”
Superintendent Dr. Shirley Perry wrote in the news release, “She believes that Carroll County is the best place to be, live, and grow, but recognizes that there is great potential for being and doing more for all members of the community. She believes that our school division and public education is the best economic development strategy for our community. We are delighted to make this announcement and we congratulate Dr. Adams-Parker for her life’s work in education.“
According to the approved personnel report issued by the Division, the action on Adams-Parker is considered a Change of Contract, effective July 1.
An email from Perry forwarded to the school community on Friday afternoon read “Starting July 1, 2018, Carroll County Public Schools will have two Assistant Superintendents: Dr. Mark Burnette and Dr. Beverly Adams-Parker. These positions will have different responsibilities and duties.”
Following a closed session at that meeting, the resignations of Assistant Principal at Carroll County Middle School Jennifer M. Campbell and Director of Human Resources Elizabeth S. Motley were announced. Both resignations are effective June 30 of this year.
