Three teenagers were airlifted after being ejected from a single-vehicle crash Sunday on Route 221 in Hillsville.
According to Virginia State Police 1st Sgt. Mike Musser, the accident occurred Sunday at 2:10 p.m. on Route 221, four-tenths of a mile north of Poplar Hill Road, and about a five-tenths of a mile north of the Big Reed Bridge. A 1997 Ford Ranger pickup was traveling south on Route 221 when it ran off the roadway and overturned, ejecting all three occupants, Musser said.
“The driver of the vehicle was found to be a 14-year-old female, and the passengers were a 15-year-old female and a 17-year-old male,” Musser said. “All three individuals were transported to a landing zone at Hillsville Elementary School, where three separate helicopters were called in from (Wake Forest University) Baptist Hospital.”
The Hillsville Fire Department, Carroll County Fire & Rescue, Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, and Virginia State Police all responded to the crash. The accident was investigated by Virginia State Trooper R.B. Phipps.
“Charges are pending and the conditions of the patients are unknown at this time,” Musser said.
