The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what is being reported as an accidental shooting to a 9-year-old girl March 21 in the Wards Gap section of the county.

Carroll County Sheriff J.B. Gardner reported that deputies from the Sheriff’s Office were called to a residence in the 8000 block of Wards Gap Road on Tuesday night for a reported accidental gunshot. Gardner said the call came in at 10:06 p.m.

“Deputy Jake Worrell responded to the scene and found a 9-year-old female shot through the right arm. The child appeared to have injuries to her left hand as well,” Gardner said. “Initial statement from the child’s father and another juvenile sibling indicated they were attempting to clean the firearm when it discharged.”
