Carroll County Sheriff J.B. Gardner recently awarded six students from Carroll County High School and Galax High School with $500 Carroll County Public Safety Scholarships.
Over the past three years, Sheriff Gardner has given $13,000 in scholarships to local graduates from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Highway Safety Fund. Scholarship winners must be pursuing a college degree in a field related to Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Firefighting or EMS Services to be eligible for the scholarship. Gardner noted he also had a $1,000 Virginia Sheriff’s Association Scholarship to award this year, but nobody applied.
Winners of this year’s scholarships from Carroll County High School are Tyler Lester, Leva Harvey, Elizabeth Walker and Savannah South. Winners from Galax High School are Jacob Gravely and Haley Morgan Carpenter.
