A Carroll County woman has been charged with malicious wounding after allegedly shooting her husband following an early-morning argument Jan. 3 near Galax.
According to Carroll County Sheriff J.B. Gardner, his office received a call to 2873 Fries Road in the Cliffview Community near Galax to a possible shooting at 3:23 a.m. on Jan. 3. Gardner said Cpl. Joe Holderfield arrived on the scene and found Charlotte Frazier, 51, standing in the front yard.
“Mrs. Frazier advised that she and her husband had been in an argument and she had shot him,” Gardner said. “Cpl. Holderfield placed Mrs. Frazier in his patrol vehicle and made entry into the couple’s motor home. Deputy Dennie Surratt arrived on the scene and assisted with the investigation. Cpl. Holderfield discovered Clayton Carlie Frazier, 57, lying in the floor of the motor home, suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.”
Pipers Gap Rescue Squad transported Mr. Frazier to Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax. Gardner said Cpl. Holderfield placed Charlotte Anne Frazier under arrest for malicious wounding. Mrs. Frazier was taken before the magistrate and is currently being held in the New River Valley Regional Jail in Dublin without bond.
