Hillsville residents hungry for Taco Bell will no longer have to make a run for the border.
The Town of Hillsville will have a special called meeting Weds., Oct. 5 to announce plans for a new Taco Bell restaurant in Hillsville according to Mayor Greg Crowder. In the past, Hillsville residents have had to drive outside the Carroll County border to Galax or Mount Airy, N.C. for Taco Bell. That will change as soon as January 2017, the earliest estimate for the opening of the new fast food chain in Hillsville.
“We are thrilled and I have to thank (Town Engineer) Steve Bowman, (Town Manager) Retta (Jackson) and (the Virginia Department of Transportation) for the reasons we were able to get this to go. They worked a lot to make this happen,” Crowder said. “The problem has been the turn-in. We have to get a commercial turn-in and they didn’t qualify at first and they had to go through several loopholes and request several variances to make it happen. VDOT went above and beyond what I thought they could to do to get it in.”
The location Crowder referred to for the upcoming Taco Bell will be in the area of the Hillsville Food Lion in the currently vacant grass lot adjacent to Pizza Hut. He said the Town of Hillsville will approve permits and everything necessary for Taco Bell to begin construction at the special Oct. 5 meeting. A January 2017 opening is planned for the Hillsville Taco Bell, although Crowder said the date may be pushed back into early spring depending on weather and how quickly construction can start.
Earlier in September, Burger Busters Inc. CEO Joe Mangano confirmed to The Carroll News in an off-the-record interview that the restaurant was coming to Hillsville after online ads began popping up for an assistant general manager and shift manager for Taco Bell’s Hillsville location. The company’s website, www.burgerbustersjobs.com, lists several open jobs for the previously mentioned positions as well as for team members at the Hillsville Taco Bell. The website lists an address of 145 South Main Street.
BurgerBusters, Inc. operates franchisee organizations for Taco Bell in North America. The company manages Yum! Brands, Pizza Hut, and KFC franchised units throughout Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia and Maryland. BurgerBusters, Inc. was founded in 1986 and is based in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
