Hillsville is looking for “The Fantastic Shakers” to bring great music and great weather with them as the Summer Nights Concert & Classic Car Cruise-In continues on June 18 at 7 p.m.
According to its website, The Fantastic Shakers were formed the third week of September 1978 and since have become known as the “South’s Finest Show Band.” The band has performed at more than 6,000 engagements (including 400 wedding receptions, 700 conventions, and numerous clubs). They have performed from New York to Florida and all throughout the Southeast. South Carolina’s Grand Strand has become the band’s summer home with their hit single “Myrtle Beach Days.”
Cooperation continues to fuel the effort with volunteers, the Town and the The Friends of Hillsville “banding” together to make it all happen. Town Treasurer and spokesperson for the Friends of Hillsville LeAnna Surratt said the events benefit everyone by providing “an atmosphere for businesses to thrive and free entertainment for citizens.”
She praised the work of Public Works Department members who “put in an extra effort” leading up to the events. This is in addition to the Hillsville Beautification Committee and others regularly sprucing up the town. Refreshments on sale include hot dogs and hamburgers, chips and drinks. Surratt praised the efforts of the Carroll County Cruisers who combined their cruise-in savvy, adding more for citizens to enjoy.
Popcorn will be sold along with other concessions. According to Mayor Gregory Crowder, Porky’s Steak & Famous Buffet is the stage sponsor for the concert and food will be provided by the Ruritan Club. Surratt praised the support of all sponsors, many of which get mentioned from the bandstand (as well as on Facebook) for sponsorships over $500.
Events scheduled this season include the The Fourth of July Celebration and parade at 4 p.m. with the July 9 Summer Nights Concert & Classic Car Cruise-In to feature “Too Much Sylvia” at 7 p.m. The next concert and cruise-in is set for August 20 at 7 p.m. and the last concert and cruise-in is scheduled for Sept. 17.
