Cana teen airlifted after vehicle strikes tree head on

The Cana Fire Department and Cana Rescue Squad extricated a juvenile victim from a 1996 Chevy Blazer on June 16 after it struck a tree head on in Cana on U.S. 52.

A Carroll County juvenile was airlifted on Tuesday after her car struck a tree head on in Cana.

According to Virginia State Police Senior Trooper R.D. Horton, the accident occurred at 4:05 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16 on U.S. 52, one-tenth of a mile south of Lanecrest Drive (Route 981) in Cana. Horton said a 17-year-old female from Cana was operating a 1996 Chevy Blazer when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road, traveling several feet before striking a tree head on, overturning the vehicle on its top. The female’s name has not been released since she is a juvenile.

Horton said the accident happened in the same location of a wreck on Halloween night in 2014 that claimed the life of a four-year-old boy. According to the trooper, the female juvenile was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Horton said the juvenile suffered obvious injuries at the scene, but said she was talking some. The Cana Fire Department and Cana Rescue Squad responded to the scene. He did not believe her injuries to be life threatening.

“The accident is still under investigation,” Horton said.
