A juvenile driver was transported to an area hospital following a two-vehicle collision Wednesday in Hillsville.
According to Officer J.W. Edwards of the Hillsville Police Department, the accident occurred at approximately 4 p.m. on Feb. 24 at the intersection of Route 100 and Route 221 in Hillsville. Edwards said a 17-year-old juvenile, whose name was not released due to his age, was on Route 221 northbound in a 2012 Kia Soul waiting to turn onto Route 100. Meanwhile, a 2014 Ford Explorer driven by Melissa Bolt, 55, of Hillsville, was traveling on Route 221 toward Hillsville.
“As the juvenile driver began to turn, he didn’t see the other car coming, which led to an angled collision,” Edwards said. “The passenger side front of the Explorer collided with the passenger side rear of the Kia.”
Edwards said the juvenile driver was transported via ambulance to Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax. The officer didn’t believe the juvenile’s injuries to be major. He charged the juvenile with reckless driving and estimated both vehicles to be total losses.
In addition to the Hillsville Police Department, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Carroll EMS also responded to the scene.
