Fourth and fifth grade students from the seven Carroll County elementary schools competed in the Junior Olympics at the CCHS track on April 17. The purpose of the Junior Olympics is to challenge elementary students to achieve good physical fitness levels.

Students displayed their physical skills in the 50-Yard Dash, Softball Throw, Pull-Ups, Standing Broad Jump, Shuttle Run, Mile Run and 440 Relay Race. Gold, silver and bronze Olympic medallions were awarded to fourth and fifth grade winners of each event. The student athletes attempted to break the Carroll County Junior Olympics records in their events.

Winners of the 50-Yard Dash are Mariah Carter, Laurel; Breanna Hodge, Hillsville; Elizabeth Combs, St. Paul; Torrey Anderson, Gladeville; Billy Surratt, St. Paul; Tristan Smith, Gladeville; Gracie Puckett, Gladesboro; Sophie Webb, Hillsville; Sydney Hawks, St. Paul; Trent McFall, Hillsville; Will Haynes, St. Paul; and Brennan Vaught, Hillsville.

Softball Throw winners are Mariah Carter, Laurel; Alex Flippin, St. Paul; Elizabeth Combs, St. Paul; Lucas Dalton, Gladeville; Kyle Babcock, St. Paul; Preston Kenny, Gladeville; Hope Marion, Gladeville; Jade Holt, Fancy Gap; Gracie Puckett, Gladesboro; Trent McFall, Hillsville; Jake Snyder, Gladeville; and Aaron Marshall, Gladeville. Mariah Carter, 4th grade, broke the county record for the softball throw with a distance of 115-feet, 9-inches.

Winners of the Mile Run are Danielle Gallimore, Laurel; Isabelle Largen, Gladesboro; Camryn Cornell, St. Paul; Kyle Babcock, St. Paul; Adam Horton, Hillsville; Billy Surratt, St. Paul; Gracie Puckett, Gladesboro; Sophie Webb, Hillsville; Mattie Kennedy, Hillsville; Damon Hill, Fancy Gap; Caleb Burris, Gladeville; and Alix Gennette, Hillsville. Gracie Puckett, 5th grade, broke the county record for the mile run with a time of 6.49.

Students excelling in Pull-Ups are Haley Edwards, Fancy Gap; Isabelle Largen, Gladesboro; Rebecca Edwards, St. Paul; Natalie Puckett, Gladesboro; Charlene Ball, Laurel; Joey Roberts, Oakland; Dylon Leonard, Hillsville; Nicholas Burnette, Hillsville; Michaela Sproviero, Gladeville; Amy Gibson, Gladeville; Mikayla Phipps, Gladesboro; Emily Burris, Gladeville; Colton Chappell, Hillsville; Brennan Vaught, Hillsville; Daniel Wingate, Gladeville; and Chatchai Mize, Oakland. Michaela Sproviero, 5th grade, broke the county record for the pull-ups by completing 25.

Standing Broad Jump winners are Elizabeth Combs, St. Paul; Taylor Ward, Hillsville; Alexis Meredith, Hillsville; Charlene Ball, Laurel; Kyle Babcock, St. Paul; Billy Surratt, St. Paul; Joel Biggs, St. Paul; Afton Beamer, Gladeville; Sydney Hawks, St. Paul; Michaela Sproviero, Gladeville; Mahayla Watson, Laurel; Jake Snyder, Gladeville; Trent McFall, Hillsville; Tyler Moore, St. Paul; and Brennan Vaught, Hillsville.

Shuttle Run winners are Sydney Nester, Fancy Gap; Sydney Rakes, Laurel; Haley Edwards, Fancy Gap; Billy Surratt, St. Paul; Daniel Lineberry, Hillsville; Seth Doss, Fancy Gap; Sophie Webb, Hillsville; Afton Beamer, Gladeville; Kiaira Ashworth, Gladeville; Brennan Vaught, Hillsville; Micah Johnson, Fancy Gap; and Dakota Hawks, St. Paul.

Winners of the Boys’ 440 Relay Race are Gladeville students Tristan Smith, Torrey Anderson, Isaac Saunders, and Michael Vera Martinez; Fancy Gap students Nick Bell, Cade Snow, Ryan Farmer, and Jared Marshall; Hillsville students Daniel Lineberry, Seth Dalton, Kristopher LaCombe, and Dylon Leonard; Gladeville students Caleb Burris, Austin Wolford, Daniel Wingate, and Caden Hodges; St. Paul students Tanner Woods, R. J. Surratt, Will Haynes, and Westin Yates; and Fancy Gap students Brogan Bowman, Damon Hill, Dalton Bean, and Micah Johnson.
