Mrs. Pierce was born on September 10, 1921 in Carroll County, Virginia to Jack & Lessie Cox Higgins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband John C. (J.C.) Pierce; sister Norma Melton; brother Ray Higgins; half-brothers Roy Higgins; Foy Higgins and Emmett Higgins; half-sisters-in-law Sadie Higgins and Virginia Higgins.
She is survived by sisters & brother-in-law Kate Vaughan; Mary & Earl Brewer all of Galax, Va.; brother & sister-in-law Tom & Loretta Higgins of Floyd, Va.; sisters-in-law Wanda Lowe; Mary Ruth Nail both of Galax, Va.; Glenna Moore of Roanoke, Va.; several nieces & nephews. The funeral service was held Thursday, December 10, 2009 in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Elder Edward Bowman officiating with burial following in Coal Creek Cemetery. The family received friends Thursday at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
