A Pulaski police officer has resigned after being charged with numerous drug and firearm offenses in Wythe County and Carroll County, where he currently resides.

Christopher Franklin Bond, 31, was charged June 15 with one count of possession of a Schedule II Drug (suspected methamphetamine) and one count of possession of a Schedule II Drug with a firearm, both felonies.

Sgt. Michael Conroy, a spokesman for the Virginia State Police, said the charges were the result of an ongoing drug investigation. Conroy said a suspected meth pipe and seven firearms (rifles, shotguns and pistols) were removed from Bond’s residence June 12 at 7089 Coulson Church Road in Austinville. He said the suspected meth pipe has been sent to a lab for confirmation. Conroy said the Virginia State Police received assistance from the Twin County Drug Task Force in the search and arrest.

Conroy said these charges are in addition to one felony and two misdemeanor charges placed against Bond on June 11 in Wythe County by the Virginia State Police and Wythe County Sheriff’s Office. Bond was charged that day with attempting to purchase a Schedule II Drug (methamphetamine), a felony, and two misdemeanor charges — attempting to purchase a Schedule III drug (Loritab) and possession of marijuana.

“Those were the result of him showing up to a drug transaction that occurred in Wythe County,” Conroy said.

Pulaski Police Chief Gary Roche said in a press release June 17 that Bond resigned, effective immediately.

“This resignation concludes a very difficult and embarrassing episode for members of our agency,” Roche said. “We are in the process of exploring additional measures to prevent a similar situation from being repeated in the future. The men and women of the Pulaski Police Department remain committed to serve the citizens of our community with honesty and integrity.”
