Carroll County’s Democrats voted much like they did in the rest of the Commonwealth in their party’s Primary, officially tabbing R. Creigh Deeds and Jody M. Wagner as their nominees for Governor and Lieutenant Governor, respectively.
Deeds and Wagner swept through all five of Carroll County’s districts, with all 19 precincts reporting, en route to their statewide wins on June 9.
In the race for the nomination for Governor, Deeds received 349 total votes in Carroll to 145 for Terry R. McAuliffe and 42 for Brian J. Moran.
The Fancy Gap District proved to be the closest, as Deeds notched 45 votes to McAuliffe’s 39 and Moran’s nine. Deeds earned 102 votes in Laurel Fork to 29 for McAuliffe and 13 for Moran.
Deeds picked up another 95 votes in Pine Creek while McAuliffe added 32 to his tally to six for Moran. In Pipers Gap, Deeds received 53 votes to 29 for McAuliffe and eight for Moran. Deeds also picked up 46 votes in Sulphur Springs to 13 for McAuliffe and three for Moran.
Deeds also received eight absentee votes versus three each for McAuliffe and Moran.
Statewide, with 100 percent of precincts reporting, Deeds received the nomination thanks to his 158,853 votes. McAuliffe got 84,387 votes and Moran tallied 75,936 total votes.
In the race for the Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor, Wagner posted 335 votes to 127 for A. Michael Signer in Carroll County, again winning all five districts.
Wagner earned 57 votes to Signer’s 26 in Fancy Gap and added 96 more votes in Laurel Fork. Signer posted 25 in the district.
In Pine Creek, Wagner topped Signer 71-41 and received 56 votes to Signer’s 19 in Pipers Gap. She then took Sulphur Springs by a 44-15 margin. Wagner also received 11 absentee votes to Signer’s one.
Statewide, Wagner received 213,059 votes for the nomination for Lieutenant Governor, while Signer posted 60,979. Jon I. Bowerbank, who withdrew from the race, received 12,739.
The Democrats also nominated Steve Shannon for Attorney General. He received the nomination after running unopposed.
The Republican Party of Virginia nominated Bob McDonnell for Governor, Bill Bolling for Lieutenant Governor and Ken Cuccinelli for Attorney General during their convention on May 29 and 30 at the Richmond Convention Center.
The 2009 General Election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
