James E. Thompson, 92, of Laurel Fork, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Heritage Hall Laurel Meadows. Mr. Thompson was born in Floyd County to the late Jimmy and Annie Burnette Thompson. He is predeased by his wife, Gladys O. Thompson; brothers, Quinton Thompson, Laymond Thompson, Raymond Thompson, Elzideen Thompson, John Thompson; sisters, Goldie McAlexander, Beatrice Smith. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Alfred and Gaynell Thompson of Hillsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Joan Tobler of Laurel Fork, Janet and Randy Roberts of Woodlawn, and Reda and Jimmy Branscome of Laurel Fork; two grandchildren, Carl Sowers and Bonnie Sizemore; two great grandchildren, Victoria Sowers and Shane Sizemore; two brothers, Hoover Thompson of Martinsville, Henry Thompson of Willis; and special niece and nephew, Margaret and Roger Swiney of Meadows of Dan. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Elder Tim McGrady officiating. Burial followed in the Nester Cemetery. Military rites were conducted at the graveside by Hillsville V.F. W. Post 1115. A guestbook is available online by visiting www.vaughanguynnandmcgrady.com.
