Of Fancy Gap
Calvin E. Sawyers, Jr., 84, of Fancy Gap, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at his home. Mr. Sawyers was born in Carroll County to the late Calvin E. Sawyers, Sr. and Florence Bonds Sawyers. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother, Weldon Sawyers; sisters, Scioto Hawks and Bessie Sawyers; and a niece, Herma Hawks. He is survived by his wife, Essie Janas Haynes Sawyers of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, William Vincent Sawyers and Jerry and Cheryl Q. Sawyers all of Fancy Gap; daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Darrell Goad and Nancy S. and Bill Bakley all of Hillsville; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Mamie Sawyers of Fancy Gap; sister, Ovela Easter of Cana; and three grandchildren, PFC Travis Goad, Maria Dawn Goad and Jacob Sawyers. Funeral services were held on Friday, June 5, 2009 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Wendell Horton officiating. Burial followed in the Bond Cemetery.
