George Marshall Collier, 85, of Willis departed this life at his home on the evening of May 30, 2009. He was born Feb. 24, 1924 in Carroll County to George Cleveland Collier and Mamie Marshall Collier. Marshall was a World War II Veteran, a Mason and a Shriner. Marshall was a member of the Eastern Star and a Charter Member of Rome Missionary Baptist Church in Keno. Of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of his family. Marshall was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Burnette Collier; brother, Glen Collier; sisters, Hazel Willis, Ima Thomas; and his constant canine companion; FiFi. Marshal is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Janie Boyer Collier. He is also survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha and Jim Davidson of Blacksburg, Kaye and Danny Tickle of Galax, Georgia and Norm Brinkman of Charlottesville; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Alice Collier of Radford and Jimmy and Mary Ellen Collier of Salem; step-daughters and spouses, Anna and Jack Morton of Mt. Airy, NC, Vanessa and Bobby Clark of Floyd, Tracey Bennington of Laurel Fork and Hope Vass of Bedford. Marshall was “PaPa Marshall” to seventeen grandchildren: Neal and Kim Quesinberry, Carrie and David Kennedy, Brad and Angie Kennington, Ashli and Jeff Stokes, Beth and Will Vail, Cathy Collier, Andrew Brinkman, Susan Brinkman, Jessi and Jamie Warren, Allie Collier, Jack Collier, Jordan Hylton, Todd Vass, Christopher Lister, Mitch Clark, Courtney Myers and Tanner Bennington. PaPa Marshall was blessed with four great-grandchildren: Collier Kennington, Graham Kennington, Jaxon Warren and Katherine Collier Stokes. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 12:00 noon at Rome Missionary Baptist Church, Laurel Fork, with Mr. Clarence Marshall officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
