Robert J. (Bobby) Henley, 82, of Hillsville, passed away on Monday, Mar. 30, 2009 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mr. Henley was born in Carroll County to the late Robert Yeoman and Betty Hicks Henley. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Cloatine H. Henley. He is survived by his daughter, Bobbie Jo Henley of Richmond, a 3rd year Master of Divinity Student at Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Imogene Henley of Galax and Charles and Geraldine Henley of Dugspur; one grand dog, two grand cats; several nephews, nieces and cousins; and special friends, Joe and Robin Tompkins and their children, Matthew, Michelle and Chastity. The family also wants to recognize the staff at Wheatland Retirement Center for the care and love shown toward Bobby during his stay there. Mr. Henley was a veteran of World War II and served in the Navy. He was an excellent wood carver and won Best in Show and many blue ribbons and other awards at Dollywood, Dover, Ohio and at the Charlotte Woodcarvers Association and was a member of several wood carvers’ clubs. Mr. Henley was a dairy farmer and worked many years for Guynn’s Hardware before starting and running his own business, Henley’s Carpet Shop. Funeral services were held on Thursday, Apr. 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hillsville Christian Church with Dr. John Dunstan officiating. Burial followed in the Dalton Hill Cemetery.
