Titus Beverly Carter, 92, of Austinville, passed away on Sunday, Apr. 5, 2009 at his home with his family. Mr. Carter was born in Carroll County to the late William Robert and Leah Artie (Lineberry) Carter. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his four brothers, Chester, Randolph, Denton and Elgin Carter; three sisters, Mable Bryant, Ethel Burnette, and Alma Smith; daughter-in-law, Agnes Carter; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Effie Mae (Horton) Carter of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, June Burcham of Austinville, Lola and Lake Newman of Woodlawn, Nina Reece of Woodlawn, and Carolyn and Eddie Russell of Galax; sons and daughter-in-law, Lester Carter, David and Doris Carter and Chester Carter all of Austinville; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; one great grandchild; four sisters, Mary Robinson of Hillsville, Ester Surratt of Anna, TX, Virginia Vaughn of Laurel Fork and Evelyn Frost of Woodlawn. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Apr. 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Coulson Church with Pastor Russell Payne officiating. Burial will follow in the Coulson Church Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. A guestbook is available online by visiting www.vaughanguynnandmgrady.com.
