A pair of local parents have been arrested and charged for the alleged abuse and neglect of an infant child that left the child with life-threatening injuries.

On February 4, the Hillsville Police Department arrested Joseph Ray Jones, age 23, and Amanda Marie Thomas, age 23, of Hillsville, as the result of an investigation by HPD Investigator James A. Alderman. Alderman received a complaint filed by the Carroll County Child Protective Services involving an infant child approximately two weeks of age that was admitted to Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C. with injuries life-threatening in nature, Hillsville Police Chief Greg Bolen said.

Investigator Alderman determined that the alleged violation occurred within the Town of Hillsville and obtained the charges. The child is currently in the custody of the Carroll County Social Services/Child Protective Service Unit, Bolen said.
