Carroll County’s natural gas pipeline is approximately two-thirds complete, reported Project Manager Dennis Cole during the Carroll County Industrial Development Authority meeting on Dec.3.
Cole said MasTec has installed 12,022 linear feet (2.27 miles) of the 17,500-feet (3.314 miles) project, which has a deadline of Dec. 31. Of that, 9,045 linear feet is open trench work, while 2,487 feet of 6” bore and 390 feet of 12” bore have been installed. Cole pointed out that the open trench work moves quickly, “sometimes as much as 700 feet a day,” while the bore work is slower and more time consuming.
“We still have major bores to go, across Grayson Street and under Main Street. They are fairly lengthy bores and it will take a while to put them in,” said Cole, who added that a sled, a piece of equipment needed for the project, is “expected to come in on Dec. 15,” and that has a caused a bit of a delay.
In addition, Cole said the state inspector directed MasTec to replace some joints. “He didn’t feel that the fusion was correct in the first few pipes. They were replaced with fused joints.”
Despite those few setbacks, the project remains ahead of schedule.
“My hats off to (Cole) and everyone who has helped with this project,” said Carroll County Administrator Gary Larrowe.
