The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office has implemented a new program to alert citizens to matters of public safety. There are two aspects to this new program.

The first is major alert or reverse 9-1-1.

• Citizens will not be required to sign up to receive this type of alert, it will go out to all land-line home and business phones either in entire region or selected geographical area. If you have a cell or voice over IP phone then you will only receive notifications if you register at the website below.

• The Sheriff’s Office will initiate these calls during the hours of 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, unless imminent danger or immediate action necessitates alerting citizens during the hours when most individuals are sleeping

• These calls will originate from Carroll County Sheriff’s Office or Twin County 9-1-1, in the event of major law enforcement emergencies or natural disasters for public safety issues or where public involvement is advantageous.

o Tornado or severe weather warnings

o Amber alerts

o BOLO for vehicle/individuals involved in violent criminal activity (bank robbery, kidnapping, etc)

o Citizen Safety Alerts

o Evacuations to include shelter locations

The second type of alert is for any information that the Sheriff’s Office will be of interest and benefit the public.

• Anyone who wishes to receive this type of alert must go to the following website and sign up: https://carrollcountyva.my.nixlepro.com

• After signing up citizens will receive text and email messages relating to both major alert messages and information message.

• These messages will originate from Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in the event of major law enforcement emergencies or natural disasters for public safety issues or where public involvement is advantageous.

• In addition to major alert messages, citizens who have signed up for this service will receive information messages issued by Carroll County Sheriff’s Office via text and email regarding:

o Weather warnings

o Road closures

o Special events sponsored by Sheriff’s Office

o Any other information that is thought to be of interest to the public

Anyone wanting more information or needing help signing up for this program should contact Janice Davis or Melinda Upchurch at Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
