Mary Margaret Sumner Cox, 76, of Draper, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008. She was born to the late Henry and Naomi Sumner of Fancy Gap on Oct. 12, 1931. Mary leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 55 years, Tom, with whom she enjoyed life and ballroom dancing; three children, Donna Cox Scalise and husband, Eric of Lynchburg, Gary Cox of Milwaukee, WS and Barry Cox of Dublin; four grandchildren, Matthew Scalise USMC and wife, Rachel of Charlottesville, Josh Scalise USMC of Virginia Beach, Caleb Cox of Wytheville and Ellen Sumner Cox of Draper; one great grandchild, Harley Grace Scalise; one sister, Blanche Griffin and husband, Larry of Bracey. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, as well as four sisters, Marie Sumner, Ruth Sumner Love, Ruby Sumner and Violet Sumner Galyean; and seven brothers, Otto, Leo, Buford, Paul, Glenn, Boyd and Lloyd. Mary attended and graduated from Hillsville High School in the class of 1949 and from New River Community College. She was a vice-president and bookkeeper for her and Tom’s business, Tom Cox Home and Office Supply. Mary was a past president of the Pulaski Merchants Council and enjoyed dancing with Tom and loved to paint, do stain glass and many other forms of arts and crafts. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Draper Valley Presbyterian Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Following the burial service a reception will be held in the church fellowship hall. Stevens Funeral Home of Pulaski is in charge of the arrangements.
