Ben Mulkey shot down Carroll County’s Southwest District title hopes Feb. 20 in Richlands.

Mulkey, Richlands’ all-time leading scorer, connected on a whopping nine 3-pointers and scored 36 points to lead the Blue Tornado to a 67-52 SWD upset. The loss dropped Carroll County (17-5, 9-3 SWD) a game behind Abingdon in the district standings. The Falcons wrapped up the SWD title Friday with a home victory over Marion.

Mulkey canned five of his nine 3-pointers in the third quarter as Richlands (12-10, 6-6 SWD) exploded for 49 second-half points. Jordan Barnett pumped in 11 points as the Blue Tornado knocked down 12 3-pointers in the victory.

Richlands limited Carroll to a single point in the first quarter, but trailed by seven at the half after the Cavs ripped off 24 points in the second period. After tying the game heading into the fourth quarter, Richlands outscored Carroll 26-11 over the final eight minutes to pull away.

Brett Rogers paced the Cavs with 17 points, while Tyler Reavis pumped in 14. Jacob Singleton added nine points, while Seth Hill and Travis Green each scored six.
