Kendra Durnil and Amie Delp both had big days for Carroll County’s cross country program Saturday in the Walkers Run at Hungry Mother Park in Marion.
Durnil and Delp both finished in the top four in their respective races to lead the Cavaliers and rank as medalists. A freshman, Durnil finished fourth out of 68 runners in the 5,000-meter varsity girls’ race with a time of 22:16. Delp, a sixth-grader, placed second out of 41 runners in the 3,000-meter middle school girls’ race with a run of 9:21.
Also in varsity girls’ action, Carroll County’s Kristen Wheatley finished 28th with a time of 25:20. The Lady Cavaliers did not have enough runners to field a full team for the event.
Justin Leagan was Carroll’s top performer in the 5,000-meter varsity boys’ race. Leagan placed 22nd out of 92 runners with a time of 18:59. Cavalier teammate Carson Piatt finished 34th with a run of 19:32 and Ebrahim Warshana wasn’t far behind, taking the 39th spot in 19:46. Carroll County’s Dakota Guynn claimed the 44th position with a time of 20:05, Keegan Mims was 67th in 21:42 and Trace Robinson was 69th with a run of 21:48.
As a team, Carroll’s varsity boys placed eighth out of 11 schools with 183 points. George Wythe won the team event with 37 points, followed by Abingdon (59), John Battle (98), Tennessee High (113) and Grayson County (131) to round out the top five.
