The red-hot serving of Adrienne Harris and Taylor Spangler helped lift Carroll County’s volleyball team to a big postseason win Oct. 31 as the Cavaliers defeated William Fleming in a Conference 24 Quarterfinal in Hillsville.
Harris and Spangler combined for a whopping 17 aces and Carroll County (6-15) recorded 27 aces on the night to easily defeat the Colonels 25-7, 25-5, 25-12 in straight sets. Harris went a perfect 20-for-20 serving in the victory and led the team with 18 service points and 10 service aces. Spangler, meanwhile, went 14-of-15 serving with 12 service points and seven service aces.
Teammate Cassie Bowman got in on the act, also going 14-of-15 serving with 12 service points and four aces, while Jolee Sloss connected on all nine of her serves to go along with three aces. Taylor Jo Burnette added two aces and Lindsey Goad also contributed an ace. The Cavaliers served at a 95 percent rate for the night (69-of-73).
Sloss led Carroll at the net with seven kills and a block. Erin Hash added two blocks and Lindsey Goad had five kills and a block. Spangler also chipped in eight kill assists and a team-high four digs, while Taylor Jo Burnette paced the Lady Cavs with nine kill assists.
With the win, Carroll advanced to Wednesday’s (Nov. 2) Conference 24 Semifinal at top-seeded Salem for a 6 p.m. showdown.
