Carilion Family Medicine adds doctor, seeing new patients

Carilion Family Medicine, which has been open since March, will be expanding its services, thanks to the addition of Dr. Greg Shawvner.Shawvner, who is certified in family medicine, received his undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech and his medical degree from the University of Virginia. He has practiced in several localities, including four years as a hospitalist at Carilion’s Giles Community Hospital. He joins Nurse Practitioner Colleen Slate and LPN Brooke Wengerd on the medical staff.With the addition of Shawvner, Slate said the practice hopes to increase its number of patients.“We’ve had a slow build of patients, mostly through word-of-mouth, but we have room to be a lot busier,” she said.


Copeland named Citizen of the Month for July

Woman charged with DUI after crashing over embankment

An Alabama woman has been charged with DUI and reckless driving after she crashed her vehicle over a steep embankment Sunday evening in Hillsville and had to be airlifted from the scene.According to Virginia State Police Senior Trooper K.D.
