Man suffers minor injuries after truck is run off road

A Bedford man suffered minor injuries after his transport truck was run off Kenmore Road in Hillsville on August 27.According to Virginia State Police Trooper S.E. Kinney, the accident occurred at approximately 1:40 p.m. on Kenmore Road, about two-tenths of a mile off of Joy Ranch Road. Kinney said Gary Dean Burks, 49, of Bedford, was driving a J.B. Hunt transport truck when he met a pickup truck traveling on the wrong side of the road, forcing Burks over the road and into a ditch.Kinney said the other driver did not stop, adding that Burks was transported to Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax for minor injuries. Kinney did not charge Burks.

 

Run for Jesus added to Christian Family Fun Day events

Christian Family Fun Day will have a new event this year, a Run/Walk for Jesus 5K.Matt Hall, the run/walk organizer, said the event seemed like a natural for Christian Family Fun Day, which is set for Saturday, Sept. 20.“Some of the times I feel closest to God are when I’m running, and I hope that translates to other people,” said Hall, adding that the event is more about fun and fellowship than competition.
