A Hillsville man will serve seven years and two months in prison for a 2013 sexual assault in Hillsville.Charles Robert Rigney, 40, pled guilty to object sexual penetration on March 5th in Carroll County Circuit Court. According to Carroll County Commonwealth’s Attorney Nathan H. Lyons, Rigney was set to go to trial on the charge, but choose to enter a guilty plea.Carroll County Circuit Court Judge Brett Geisler then accepted the plea and recommended a sentence of 20 years for Rigney, with 12 years and 10 months suspended on probation. Geisler also ordered Rigney to register as a violent sex offender for life, Lyons said.
