The Arts & Cultural Council of the Twin Counties raised $1,920 during its Empty Bowls fundraiser at the First United Methodist Church in Hillsville on March 22. The bus slid off the edge of the narrow road, but was prevented from rolling down a steep embankment by a thick row of brambles. According to Carroll County Sheriff J.B. The Virginia State Police has confirmed three fatalities after a 75-vehicle pileup Easter Sunday on Interstate 77 in Fancy Gap. The pileup took place at approximately 1 p.m. Virginia State Police Spokesman Mike Conroy said dense fog was a major factor. He said it appeared as if the initial wreck led to many chain reaction accidents in the pileup.
