Name: Jeff Pickett

Family Members: Tammy is my wife. In March we will celebrate our 28th anniversary. God blessed us with two wonderful daughters and sons in laws: Megan & Chris Mabry. Ashley & Jacob Moore & Aiden Joyce Moore is our first grandchild that was born December 7, 2012.

Occupation and why you selected it: My occupation is working for the Lord as the pastor of Hillsville Pentecostal Holiness Church. Selected is not the term I would use here-God called me & I accepted His will to spread the Good News of Christ’s love to everyone that will listen.

What clubs, groups and church do you belong: I am an Ordained Minister of the Appalachian Conference of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Education: GED & College graduate of Maranatha Christian College.

What is something most people don’t know about you: I will minister to anyone in need regardless if I know them or not. Every seed that God allows me to plant I have faith that He will send a harvest. I praise God for every person He puts in my path every day that I can witness to all for God’s glory!

Favorite food: I have to admit what most people know anyway, I am a very picky eater but some of my favorite foods are: homemade pizza, grilled hamburgers, hotdogs, & beans & cornbread.

What is the most amazing thing you’ve ever witnessed? Of course the birth of our daughters was amazing & seeing them grow up into the lovely young ladies they are. When someone accepts Jesus as their personal Savoir & watching God work in their life is a sweet reward for a pastor & his wife. It is truly amazing that God would allow us to be a part of such miraculous wonders.

When does Hillsville Pentecostal Holiness Church anticipate being in its new church on Virginia Street? I have to say this has been the question of the year & I’m going to answer like this – we are still growing in leaps & bounds at HPHC but we still have room to grow since we have started having an early morning service. God knows what we need & we will be in the new church when God says it’s time.

What are you feelings on prayer in schools? Of course I believe prayer should be a daily routine in schools. I have such a burden for the children. The children are our future! We should live in a society that teaches them that the best relationship they can have is with God & that prayer is their direct line to God. Our children should know that they can pray & seek God anywhere regardless if it’s permissible.

What is your favorite Bible verse? That is a difficult question because I have so many favorite scriptures but if I had to choose it would be John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (KJV)

Share your most favorite memory in your life to date: Although I have several wonderful memories in my life my favorite would have to be when God heard me cry when I was sitting at a picnic table & He saved my soul. God put all the broken pieces of mine and my family’s life back together & life has never been the same. I still look like the same Jeff Pickett but God has completely changed me into a man that has a servant’s heart.

What is the best advice you were ever given and who gave it? Years ago my dad told me that I needed to get my life right with God or it wasn’t going to be good. He was so right!

Name something you find very irritating and why? There’s not enough hours in a day to reach out & minister to everyone that needs to hear about the love that God has for them if they just believe & accept Him as their Savior.

What else would you like the people of Carroll County to know about you? I do not take the call that God has placed on my life lightly…it’s all about God!!! My wife & I are grateful that God has placed us at HPHC to lead & serve a God-loving congregation that willingly helps us reach out to the community.

Why don’t countries like us?
Ever wonder which countries hate the United States the most. We are hated by a lot of countries, but we really can’t help it. We were just born with a strong personality and, quite possibly, a bi-polar disorder. Nevertheless, we are hated, that’s for sure. Either other countries want us to stay ...

Odors on a plane
I was reading an article entitled “The Nine Most Common Airplane Accidents” and was quiet surprised that crashing and exploding into a massive ball of flame was not among them. You see, when I fly, that’s what I expect to happen. Now, I know that flying is safer than driving a car, at least th...
