A Charlotte, N.C. man amazingly walked away without injuries after his tractor trailer overturned Wednesday in Hillsville, crushing the cab of the truck.
According to Virginia State Police Trooper K.D. Blackburn, Michael Sills, 35, was driving a 2006 Freightliner for Abou Import/Export Inc. when the tractor trailer hit the guardrail in the right side of the southbound onramp exit at Exit 14 in Hillsville, causing the trailer to tilt and overturn. The accident occurred at approximately 12:15 p.m. and the driver’s side portion of the cab was crushed, sitting on the guardrail. Blackburn said Sills walked away from the accident without any injuries.
“He was extremely lucky. It crushed the cab pretty good,” Blackburg said. “It caved in the driver’s side part of the truck.”
The Hillsville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene to clean up a small diesel leak. The guardrail was also damaged heavily. Blackburn did not charge Sills in the accident.
