Pedestrian struck at Cana wreck scene
by Civitas Media
CANA, Va. — A Cana woman who had heard her son was involved in a wreck was struck by a car at the scene of an unrelated accident Wednesday morning and airlifted to a Winston-Salem hospital. “She stepped from behind a fire truck,” Trooper S.M. Phillips of the Virginia State Police said of Angela Arlene Jones, 47. “I don’t know the extent of her injuries,” the trooper added. “She was alert and conscious at the scene — there didn’t appear to be anything life-threatening. Jones was hit about 8:10 a.m. after she and her husband received a call from their son that he had been in an accident somewhere in the Cana area. Not knowing its location, Jones saw the aftermath of another accident near the intersection of U.S. 52 and Flower Gap Road, thinking it was the one involving her son. Phillips described it as a “T-bone” collision that caused one injury, also thought to be non-life-threatening. Several emergency vehicles, including at least one Virginia State Police car as well as the fire truck, were parked in the center turn lane at the time Jones was injured. ‘We were just stopped in the turn lane and she was speaking to someone at the scene,” the trooper continued. After learning that her son was not involved, Jones apparently tried to return to her own vehicle and stepped into the path of a northbound 2012 Chevrolet Sonic operated by Melissa Nester, 37, of Fancy Gap. The Sonic is a smaller vehicle Phillips described as similar to a Honda Civic. Jones was taken by ground transport to Northern Hospital of Surry County in Mount Airy and airlifted from there to Wake Forest Baptist Health. Phillips speculated that Jones might have been preoccupied with her son’s well-being and that caused her not to notice the oncoming car. In addition, traffic on the normally busy U.S. 52 was light at the time, due to the northbound lane being blocked and southbound traffic being re-routed to Flower Gap Road around the wreck scene. “Actually it (traffic) was fairly light,” and “that’s why she felt a little more comfortable,” the trooper said. Nester was traveling about 30 to 35 mph at the time, conforming to the posted speed limit, and will not be charged, Phillips said. The trooper added that the Virginia State Police was not aware of any accident involving Jones’ son. Read more: Mount Airy News - Pedestrian struck at Cana wreck scene

Why don’t countries like us?
Ever wonder which countries hate the United States the most. We are hated by a lot of countries, but we really can’t help it. We were just born with a strong personality and, quite possibly, a bi-polar disorder. Nevertheless, we are hated, that’s for sure. Either other countries want us to stay ...
