Plans for Historic Hillsville’s July 4th celebration are under way. The theme “Proud to be American” has been selected to guide the parade entries and overall activities this year.
Entries in the parade will line up on Edgewood Drive at 3 p.m. and judging of the floats will begin at 3:15 p.m. Any float not in place at that time will not be judged. Awards will be given in the categories of Most Patriotic, Most Original and Best in Show.
The parade will begin at 4 p.m., travel down Main Street, turn right at the stoplight and conclude at VFW Post 1115. Events at the VFW include food, music and children’s games.
Music will begin inside the VFW at 5:30 p.m. with the gospel group Larry Davis and Friends, followed by the Flat Ridge Boys, a country and bluegrass group. Tim Elliott and Catfish Cherry, who perform new and classic country, take the outdoor stage at 6 p.m. The celebration will conclude with the fireworks extravaganza at approximately 9:30 p.m.
