With the resignations of Town Manager Larry South and Hillsville Police Chief Steve Williams set to take effect June 29, the Hillsville Town Council took steps to fill those positions, at least for the interim. Judy Bolt, currently the administrative assistant and treasurer, will step in for South, while Cpt. Jason Hawks, Williams’ second in command, will be the interim chief.
“Until the new council appoints a new town manager and police chief, those positions need to be covered,” said Councilman Orba Alderman, who then made a motion for Bolt to assume the town manager position and Hawks to assume the role of police chief. Alderman’s motions also called for each to receive the “compensation” those new roles required.
The motion was approved unanimously by the council, which also approved a motion to begin advertising “through the proper channels” for candidates to fill the roles of town manager and police chief.
