Work crews, who started this May 28, are on track for the Carroll County Public Library renovations.
The crews are updating the air conditioning units, painting the walls, redoing the bathrooms, and replacing the carpets and gutters.
The library ladies, sweat shining on their foreheads, laughed jollily when asked about the progress. Piles of books rose around them, off the shelves and instead in stacks on the floor.
“We’re working,” June Pike said. “The carpets are supposed to come at the end of the week. We’re moving books so that they can move the shelves and put the carpet down… . The work crews told me they’d have the library painted by the end of the week.”
For the last few months, library workers have been cycling out old books to ease the renovation process.
For those who are currently borrowing books from the library, the due dates have been pushed to July to accommodate the renovation.
“The Galax library is still open… . Anyone that had books on reserve, we’re sending the reserve books to Galax, so that they can still pick them up while we’re closed.”
