New scam making its way through Carroll
by Thomas Lester, Editor
A new telephone scam is making its way through Carroll County and scaring citizens into thinking they are going to be arrested. According to Investigator Kevin Kemp of the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, citizens get a telephone call from somebody claiming they owe money and if they don't pay, the Sheriff's Office will come arrest them. "It's all bogus," Kemp said. "People are getting scared, calling us asking if they're going to get arrested. It's not going to happen." Kemp said financial matters are civil issues and don't involve the Sheriff's Office. He said since the middle of the week, he's received five concerned telephone calls from citizens as well as a handful of emails. Kemp said it's important not to give these scammers money or personal information, such as credit cards or Social Security Numbers. Also, Kemp said people will sometimes get calls from a third party telling them that a family member has been arrested in another location and they need to have money wired to get them out. "Do some checking, don't just send them money," Kemp said. "Call the family members and see where they are." Kemp said it's important to use common sense and to err on the side of caution. If you receive one of these calls, call the Sheriff's Office at 730-3020.

Why don’t countries like us?
Ever wonder which countries hate the United States the most. We are hated by a lot of countries, but we really can’t help it. We were just born with a strong personality and, quite possibly, a bi-polar disorder. Nevertheless, we are hated, that’s for sure. Either other countries want us to stay ...

I was reading an article entitled “The Nine Most Common Airplane Accidents” and was quiet surprised that crashing and exploding into a massive ball of flame was not among them. You see, when I fly, that’s what I expect to happen. Now, I know that flying is safer than driving a car, at least th...
