Family Members: Linda Mock (wife), Jamie Mock (son), Crystal Atwood (daughter), Timothy Atwood (Grandson), Tabitha Nettles (Granddaughter).

Occupation and why you selected it: Carroll County Emergency Services Director – Retired as Georgetown County Emergency Services Director and wanted to continue to work full time. Began as a volunteer rescue squad member and as a volunteer firefighter.

What clubs, groups and church do you belong: Hillsville Rotary Club, Attending First United Methodist Church Hillsville.

Education: Attended Beaufort Technical College – Fire Science, University of Georgia - Chief Officer Executive Development, Emergency Management Institute - Professional Development Series (PDS).

What is something most people don’t know about you: Musician (marginal, however).

Favorite food: Fried Chicken (you can look at me and tell).

Favorite music and/or performer(s): Lynard Skynard, Marshal Tucker Band and Credence Clearwater Revival and most importantly, gospel music (all kinds).

Favorite book or author: The Bible.

What is the most difficult part of your job? When we have to inform family members that a loved one has passed away.

What part of your job brings you the most satisfaction? Seeing the commitment from, and the professionalism of, the volunteers and career 1st responders of the county. Watching a young professional grow and mature in their chosen profession for Fire and Rescue.

If you weren’t in your present position, what job would you like to try? Would not change a thing.

Share your favorite memory in your life to date: Several - The birth of my children and marrying my wife, Linda, also, I was inducted in the South Carolina Firefighters Hall of Fame.

Name something you find very irritating and why: People who criticize others before they know the whole story.

What is the best advice you were ever given and who gave it: My father made sure that I knew that he gave me my name and it was my responsibility to take good care of the family name.

What else would you like the people of Carroll County to know about you? Began in the emergency field as a volunteer rescue member and volunteer firefighter, started career while attending college with the Sea Pines Forest Beach Fire Department on Hilton Head Island, SC, Became the Fire Chief for Midway Fire Rescue in Pawleys Island, SC served 23 years. Then promoted to the position of Emergency Services Director serving nearly 8 years before retiring.
