If winning is the measure of success, Carroll County’s Taylor Martin is putting the finishing touches on an outstanding career at CCHS.

As a sophomore, Martin was on the Lady Cavaliers’ squad that swept through the Southwest District for the regular-season and tournament championships. Last year as a junior, she was a starter on the Carroll team that won 23 games, including the Region IV Championship, and recorded the first Group AA State Tournament win in school history. As a senior leader in 2012-13, Martin has again helped guide the Cavaliers to a district tournament championship as it prepares to make another postseason run.

We’ve also found that Martin answers questions with the same fire and passion she shows on the court. Enjoy!!

You had a pick-6 in the powderpuff game this fall. Did Coach Hale ever try to recruit you to the football team? He tried, but we couldn’t negotiate a contract.

What is Tay Talks Tech and why did you quit doing it? Our inbox is full of demands here of people asking for the return of Tay Talks Tech? Fellow team member Crysta Guynn and myself did weekly youtube videos recapping the results of the Virginia Tech game for that week. I guess you could say we are somewhat famous…. But we hung up the green screen and decided to explore new career options.

When you play one-on-one, how bad does Mac school you? It depends on what shoes he is wearing. I can beat him almost every time in the Kobe’s, but he is unstoppable in the Lebrons….

Let’s see, you played for Coach Brandi Mitchell in AAU ball and then on the 8th grade team. Then she moved up to be the JV coach when you played and now she is an assistant on the varsity team. Ever get the feeling you are being stalked? I thinks she follows me because she knows I can teach her a valuable life lesson every day.

We loved those muffins at your brother’s restaurant, The Stix. If we promise to write nice things about you, you think you could hook us up with some black-market pastries? Give me a couple extra points in the paper every week and I’ll see what I can do.

Do people ever call you a cradle robber? I think I might have a future in child care.

Coach Motley says between you and Rachel Sellers, the gym floors stay clean and the school saves time and money in dust mops because you guys hit the floor so much. Don’t you think you should get some sort of civic duty credit for this? I tried to use it as my community service for Government class.. but they wouldn’t let me.

Is it true your dad taught you everything you know? He tried, but when dad leaves the gym Mac really shows me how it’s done. Sorry dad…

Coach Motley says you could write a book and you like to “explain things.” What does he mean exactly? Coach Motley doesn’t understand that a woman is always right.

How many pairs of basketball shoes do you own, including the ones you refuse to wear? I only own six pairs, and wear one. But my brother is the real sneaker head.

We’ve heard a rumor, and we just hope and pray it’s not true. Please, please put this horrifying thought to rest. It’s not true that you sleep with a Justin Bieber poster over your bed on your ceiling is it? That is true… I also have a life size Justin Bieber, and change his hats every season.

Why do opposing teams think you are left handed? I always drive with my left hand. Even though they say I am left handed, no one has ever cut my left hand off. So they must be severely confused.

Coach says you go so hard in practice that sometimes they have to calm you down. Are you auditioning for a spot in a 5-Hour Energy ad? They have already aired the commercial.. Have you not seen it?

How much can you can bench press? More than you…. Actually 140 pounds. (Editor’s Note: Here is where we would normally put some sort of snarky comeback, but we still want those muffins, so carry on Taylor.)

Who is the toughest player you’ve ever had to guard? Probably Tay Taylor… and only because when her coach yells at her, I think he is talking to me.

Why would your brothers think you are the favorite child in the family? Because I am the best looking.

What’s it been like playing for the Roanoke Stars AAU team? It has been the thing that has helped me most in basketball. Randy Hale has been a very good coach, and has taught me a lot of valuable things.

You are leading the team in assists at 4.5 per game and close to the team lead in scoring. Would you rather have a big scoring game or dish out 15 assists, and why? I would rather give 15 assists because that would mean 30 points for my team. I have always been a strong believer in giving.

The ball is in your hand probably about 90 percent of the time. How much responsibility did you feel as the team’s starting point guard? I feel like I have the biggest responsibly. But thats how I like it, so I can take care of business.

Who is the biggest prankster among Mac’s friends, and how do you go about getting them back? Tanner … I don’t usually have to get him back, because I become part of the pranking.

What was it like playing Millbrook in the State Semifinals last year in Richmond? Like playing the Monstars off space jam. No other way to describe it.

What’s it been like playing varsity basketball at Carroll County High School? I feel privileged to be have been a part of such a successful team, and wouldn’t want to play for any other school.
