Loretta Kathleen (Fahey) Lindsay, 90, passed away on November 16, 2012 in Mentor, Ohio having spent time with loving family. Loretta was born to Eugene and Isabella (McElroy) Fahey on June 9, 1922 in East Mauch Chunk, PA (Now Jim Thorpe, PA). She was the fourth of ten children. Loretta had just been honored in a Veterans Day ceremony for service in WWII as a nurse on the hospital ship Francis Y Slanger. It was on this ship that she met the love of her life, Lawrence Eldon Lindsay, a wounded and highly decorated Army Air Corp fighter pilot from Hillsville, Virginia. They married and lived a full and loving life together for 58 years. They retired to Salisbury, NC and lived there until Larry’s death and Loretta’s declining health. Loretta was always singing and brought a sense of calm wherever there was stressful situations. She was a most loving and gentle wife and mother with a quiet but quick-witted sense of humor. Loretta cared for the actor Art Carney while in the war and he credited her with saving his leg that was scheduled to be amputated. Loretta was preceded in death by her lifelong love, Larry. Together they have left four children, Lawrence (Sherry) Lindsay of Parkland,Florida, Eugene (Margaret) Lindsay of Raleigh, NC, Patricia Lindsay Ruez of Concord, Ohio and Catherine (George, deceased) Lindsay Nuesser of Chicago, Illinois. Loretta and Larry found great joy in their twelve grandchildren: Michelle, Lisa, Dawn, Adrienne, Brian, Jarrod, Kristen, Jacob, Lindsay, Tiffany, Patrick and Scott and many great-grandchildren. Loretta has two beloved sisters living in Jim Thorpe, Catherine ‘Kay’ Bimler and Patricia McArdle and many loved neices and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Eugene, William and Edward and her sisters Hannah, Ellen and Isabelle also an infant brother also named Edward. Services for Loretta will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jim Thorpe on December 8, 2012 at 11 AM.
