The Carroll County Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission have begun taking steps to update the County Comprehensive Plan in 2010.
The plan will create a picture of what the county will look like in the future that reflects the desires of the residents. During construction of the plan, current conditions of the county will be evaluated and compared to the desired conditions 20 years into the future, Assistant County Administrator of Landuse and Planning Ronald Newman said. He said the plan also will serve as a road map and a decision-making guide to move the county forward. The plan will be created to promote logical, managed growth, connecting future land use to the appropriate level of public improvements while being sensitive to natural and cultural resources. Chandler Planning and Planning Works, LLC will be assisting Carroll County with this plan update.
Strong public involvement with updating the plan is encouraged. There will be a countywide kick-off meeting held on January 14, 2010 in the cafeteria of Carroll County High School from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Additional district-wide community meetings will be held approximately two weeks following the kick-off meeting. During the process, citizens will be able to access information and to submit comments concerning the plan by accessing the County website at www.carrollcountyva.org/comprehensiveplan, following the kick-off meeting, or by contacting the Office of Land Use and Planning, 605-1 Pine Street, Hillsville, Va., 24343.
