The streak is over. Using a tenacious press that limited Galax to just 10 first-half points, Carroll County’s boys’ basketball team beat rival Galax for the first time since Dec. 3, 2007 on Thursday in Hillsville by a score of 48-31, snapping the Maroon Tide’s 8-game winning streak in the series.

Ryan Gravley (16 points) and Connor Lundy (10 points) nearly outscored the Maroon Tide by themselves, while the Cavalier defense forced 24 Galax turnovers. After the game, Carroll County’s fans stormed the court after knocking off the two-time defending state champions. Look for the Dec. 12 edition of The Carroll News for full coverage of the game.
